Completed as part of ELEC2301 at the University of Southampton, this group project involved designing and laying out four digital circuits for integration onto a single IC using Tanner S-Edit and L-Edit.
The IC consisted of a 4-bit ALU, a 10 MHz ring oscillator, a nine-segment display decoder and a pseudo-random number generator. My main responsibilities were developing the physical layout of the ALU and integrating the four completed circuit blocks into the final IC layout.
The ALU supports six operations on two 4-bit inputs: addition, subtraction, AND, OR, XOR and XNOR, with multiplexers used to select the required operation from the control inputs.
The integration stage was the most challenging part of the project. Bringing the four blocks together required careful placement and routing while maintaining connectivity and resolving DRC violations across the complete layout.
